Staff Excellence Awards 2024-25: The Winners

The 2024-25 Staff Excellence Awards celebration event was held on Friday 27 February in the Whitla Hall.

The Staff Excellence Awards celebrate and recognise the achievements of all categories of staff at Queen's - from researchers and operational staff to teaching academics, administrative staff, technicians, and Professional Services colleagues.

This year, the Judging Panel received an outstanding 270 nominations from staff and students. From these, 28 individuals and teams were shortlisted across seven categories, each exemplifying the University’s Core Values.

At the celebration event in Whitla Hall, President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Ian Greer addressed attendees:

"As we celebrate today, let us continue to inspire each other, embrace new ideas, and uphold the values that make Queen’s a remarkable place to work and learn. I look forward to seeing what we achieve together in the year ahead".

Marking her final year as Chair of the Staff Excellence Awards, Mairéad Regan extended her sincere thanks to all staff who took the time to recognise the achievements of their colleagues:

"I would like to sincerely thank all staff who took the time and effort to recognise their colleagues’ contributions and the positive impact they bring to our wider university community".

The 2024-25 winners were:

  • Queen's 180 Award - Prostate Cancer Centre of Excellence
  • Exceptional Contribution - Miss Brenda Flynn
  • Celebrating Innovation - Academic Appeals Digitisation Project Team
  • Best Collaboration - Recording of Teaching Policy / Lecture Capture Working Group
  • Delivering Excellence - Dr Darragh Lydon
  • Outstanding Leadership - Ms Anya O’Connor
  • Student Choice Award - Mr John Carberry
