QUB Postgraduate Symposium

QUB hosted its annual postgraduate symposium this November, in Riddel Hall. This is an opportunity for all PhD students across the Medicine Health and Life Science (MHLS) faculty to meet and present their research.

ESR2 Éilis Sutton presented her research in poster format, receiving huge praise for the amount of work shown on her work investigating novel biomarkers in oesophageal adenocarcinoma. It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with collaborators from Almac too, to discuss how it fits into the broader plans of our consortium.

ESR4 Niamh McCabe represented CCRCB in the oral presentations for final year students. The idea behind these talks is 3-2-1: 3 minutes, 2 PowerPoint slides and 1 question, to explain your PhD project as clearly as possible. To summarise 3 years of work into 3 minutes is a challenge, and to make it clear and accessible is even more difficult. Having a structured project and the passion for its value definitely aided in Niamh winning this competition. Successful science communication is crucial for public engagement and is a cornerstone of our MSCA TRACT programme. It was brilliant to see Queen's University Belfast highlighting its importance, and for giving Niamh the opportunity to test the skills learned throughout the TRACT programme.
