What Makes the Queen’s Community Special?
We asked our student ambassadors what makes Queen's a special place to study - find out what they had to say below!
"International students and professors create a kaleidoscope of diversity"
The Queen's community is truly one-of-a-kind. At my undergraduate university, in the United States, I found that my professors and fellow students were mainly local. At Queen's, I experienced something I doubt I would have had the opportunity to back home. It's such an expansive place in every possible way. International students and professors create a kaleidoscope of diversity, allowing for a variety of people and perspectives to meet, mingle and flourish.
Words cannot describe how life-changing it is to meet and learn alongside people from all over the world. It is a profoundly unifying experience that reminds us we are all citizens of Planet Earth, more alike than different, and more loving than we often give ourselves credit for. The Queen's community is a place where mutual acceptance, compassion and curiosity thrive, unstoppable friendships form, and the growth of one's heart and mind is inevitable.

"It’s amazing how students from all over the world come together and create such a lively atmosphere"
For me, Queen’s is all about diversity and inclusiveness. It’s amazing how students from all over the world come together and create such a lively atmosphere. There are so many chances to get involved, from societies and cultural events to peer mentoring and group projects. And the best part? No matter where you’re from, you’ll always feel welcome. The community spirit, especially through the Students' Union and campus activities, makes Queen’s feel like a big family, not just a university.

"If you’ve got an idea or initiative I’ve found there’s always support"
I really enjoy interacting with the community here at Queen’s. I have a few different job roles as a student at Queen’s and I get to work alongside students on different courses. Each shift I work I can be working with students I’ve never met before and after a quick introduction every time we get along really well. I also love meeting people who are studying different courses. Queen’s put on events for students all throughout the year as well and most of these are free making it easy to socialise and meet others. I’m a mature student here at Queen’s and the widening participation mature students team got in touch with me and helped me to settle in. I’ve even got a job now with the widening participation unit.
There’s currently around 220 clubs and societies at Queen’s so there’s really something for everyone. My favourite one I signed up to is the Taylor Swift Society - yes, it exists. There’s so many opportunities within the Queen’s community, I recently secured funding for a wellbeing group I’m part of and I’m in the process of planning the event. I’m super excited for it and it’s all thanks to the Queen’s Students' Union fund. If you’ve got an idea or initiative I’ve found there’s always support and someone within the Queen’s community willing to help make it come to life.

"Queen's has been inclusive and considerate"
When a student is coming from a completely different social, cultural, or communal background, it is easier to get overwhelmed at university. However, Queen’s has especially been inclusive and considerate in this regard. There are a lot of social spaces and events for students to feel more welcome and appreciated. I cannot think of a single instance where I was treated poorly. Every single event I have ever been to has been a safe, secure, and uplifting environment. It is also a great opportunity to interact and get to know people from diverse cultures, making real connections along the way.

"There is a sense of belonging"
What makes the Queen's community so special is definitely the people. From the very first day, I noticed how welcoming, friendly, and approachable everyone was. It is very easy to meet people from all kinds of backgrounds here at Queen’s, creating a diverse and vibrant environment where you can learn so much outside the classroom. Both staff and students are approachable and willing to help, whether it be offering academic advice, recommending activities, or simply sharing a chat over coffee. There is a sense of belonging that makes campus life feel less intimidating and more comfortable.

"It's a very positive place"
The Queen’s community is first and foremost a very positive place. Even when you’re pulling last minute study sessions or end of year tutorials, you can always find someone at Queen’s to laugh or be friends with, whether that’s your tutors or classmates.
