Facilities

What additional Facilities will you find in the Childcare Services at Queen's building?

  • PARKING

We have a dedicated parking bay out front of our building for quick drop-off and pick up of children.

There is also a bicycle post to securely hold your bicycle until you return.

  • PRAM STORAGE

We appreciate that many of our families use public transit to get to daycare and have created a Pram Storage room within the building so prams can be left indoors, securely throughout the day, and collected upon pickup.

There are also baby-changing facilities in this room, and our families can find our Swap Shop here, a space where families can share children’s items they no longer need and swap for another item on offer they could use.

  • SECURITY

Our facilities are secure, and we have measures in place to keep the children safe whilst they are in our care.

All exterior doors are securely locked. People with parental responsibilities are asked to buzz in and only once they are verified by staff, they are allowed access. Strict controls on who has access to the Daycare are in place and can be found in our Policies section (hyperlink to Policies page).

Policies and procedures (link to policies page) are in place to monitor who has access to the building.

Please see our Keeping Safe (hyperlink to that section) section for more information on security of the facility.

  • NURSING ROOM FOR MOTHERS

Childcare Services at Queen's has a Nursing Room for staff and student mothers.

Queen’s staff and students returning from maternity leave who wish to continue breastfeeding their babies can avail of a private room to express and store milk in a fridge specifically provided for this purpose. The room is available from Monday to Friday, 8.15am to 5.45pm, and any bookings can be made via QOL under Service Applications / Admin / Nursing Room or by contacting the Childcare Site at Tel. 90-97 1288 or childcareservices@qub.ac.uk

    NURSING ROOM TESTIMONIAL

Having the facility to express milk for my baby has made the transition back to work much easier than I had initially anticipated. Queen’s Childcare staff were more than helpful in allowing me to access the room before I returned, which allayed all of my concerns around returning to work as a breastfeeding mother. The room is private, comfortable with a sofa and has a sink and fridge for milk storage, all of the facilities which are essential for expressing.  Having the room available to express in on the main site has ultimately meant that I can continue to breastfeed my son until a time of our choosing rather than being forced to stop early upon my return to work.
