Activities

Quantum-Gravity Group’s Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Programmes

Activity Overview

Level of Study

Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught/Masters, Postgraduate Research

Award Type

Single Route

Single Route accreditation is available to Active Participants, Peer-Leads and Peer-Organisers who engage with the following two programmes:

The Mathematical Formalism of General Relativity:

This Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) programme aims to offer students an undergraduate exposure to the Mathematical Formalism of General Relativity. Students who sufficiently participate in this programme will consolidate their understanding of field theory and special relativity before introducing the mechanisms of differential geometry necessary to appreciate Einstein’s most famous theory. Participating students will work in groups, led by level 2+ students in SMP, to derive the core theory through exercises, in 2-hour weekly sessions. Finally, students will develop their ability to analyse relevant literature in field-theories and learn how exercise sheets are constructed for sufficient teaching in group and independent projects.

From Quantum Theory to Quantum Fields:

This Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) programme aims to offer students an undergraduate exposure to the Quantum Theory into Quantum Fields. Students who sufficiently participate in this programme will consolidate their understanding of Quantum & Advanced Quantum Theory before introducing the field theory framework behind the Quantum Field Theories of Klein, Gordan, and Dirac.
