Assistant Supervisor Information Session

This session is for postdocs, academics and students willing to learn about the Assistant Supervisor role, recently expanded to all 3 Faculties. The role aims to facilitate and recognise the involvement of postdocs in the supervision of PhD students.

Date(s)
July 5, 2021
Location
MS Teams (the link will be sent to participants a day or two before the session)
Time
12:00 - 12:30

The implementation of the Assistant Supervisor role is due to begin at the end of June for the Faculties of EPS and AHSS, in addition to MHLS.

This role recognises the contributions postdocs make to the supervision of postgraduate research students and provides a framework for them to get involved in supervision.

Having an Assistant Supervisor is not mandatory for students and the Assistant Supervisor doesn't substitute to any other member of the supervisory team. They bring additional skills, input and support to both the student and supervisors, while developing their management skills.

This 30 min information session will cover:

  • why the role was created
  • what the role intails for postdocs
  • the benefits for postdocs, supervisors and students
  • eligibility criteria
  • the application process
  • future developments in the upcoming year, in relation with the role

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.
