Perspectives which adopt a 'rights of nature' approach to protect nature and recognise the intrinsic rights of ecosystems and species to evolve, flourish and regenerate are gaining traction across the world. In this webinar, we will consider the global rights of nature movement and the potential for this movement to find its place on the island of Ireland - where new thinking is urgently needed to deal with the threats created by pandemics, the ecological emergency and climate breakdown.

In deepening the conversation on rights of nature, we hope to explore opportunities which could exist at many levels, including place-based, local authority and constitutional initiatives. This webinar is designed to create a space to facilitate the exchange of perspectives on what a rights of nature movement might look like in a shared island context and to explore the relationship between the rights of communities and the rights of nature.

Keynote speaker:

Mari Margil, Executive Director of the Center for Democratic and Environmental Rights and program manager for CDER’s International Centre for the Rights of Nature. (centerforenvironmentalrights.org)
