Dr Bharain Mac an Bhreithiún 

Bharain Mac an Bhreithiún is a lecturer, writer and researcher with interests in the fields of language, visual culture and cultural histories and geographies. The main strand of his research focuses on linguistic landscapes and the visual presentation of languages in public space, incorporating typography, onomastics and language politics. He is currently involved in the study of linguistic landscapes of Central and Eastern Europe with projects on ghost signage in Lviv, street signs and place-making in Bucharest and Sarajevo and the interactions between Czech and German in the Czech borderlands. Other work has looked at minority language signage in the north of Ireland, post-colonial linguistic landscapes in Tunis and the graphic markers of place identities in The Amsterdam neighbourhood of De Pijp.
