Join us for the launch of The Last Bohemian: Brian Desmond Hurst, Irish film, British cinema by Lance Pettitt (Foreword by Mark Cousins) - hosted by EFACIS.

The subject of the book - Brian Desmond Hurst - was born in east Belfast (1895) and was a noted film director within the British cinema industry from the 1930s to the 1950s. As Ireland’s most prolific film director, he discovered two James Bonds and mentored two Bond film directors; gave Richard Attenborough his first screen role; and is the director of Scrooge (1951), Dangerous Moonlight (1941), Theirs is the Glory (1946).

Hurst was an Irishman instrumental in defining a British cinema imaginary in the mid-twentieth century; and was the first to put J.M. Synge’s plays on screen in 1935.

The Last Bohemian is the first independent, scholarly and unauthorised book on Hurst’s biography, the full range of his films and it reevaluates his reputation as a film director.

Books available on the evening at Launch Offer price in collaboration with No Alibis Bookstore.
