Ireland will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, a role that places it at the centre of EU decision-making at a time of significant geopolitical, economic and security challenges. This event offers a timely opportunity to explore Ireland’s priorities and ambitions for the Presidency, as well as the wider direction of the European Union in the years ahead.
 
The Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne TD, will deliver opening remarks on Ireland and the EU, including Ireland’s approach to the Presidency. These remarks will be followed by a moderated fireside conversation with Dr Peter McLoughlin and audience Q&A, providing space for reflection, dialogue and engagement on the issues shaping Europe’s future.
 
Open to students, academics and the wider public, this one-hour event aims to foster informed discussion and deepen understanding of Ireland’s European engagement at a pivotal moment for the EU.
