Queen's University Hosts Inaugural George Cross HSC Lecture with Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam

Queen's University was delighted to host the first George Cross HSC Lecture, with Professor Jonathan Van-Tam delivering a talk on pandemic preparedness

Queen's University was delighted to host the first George Cross Lecture in association with the HSC and NICON.

In July 2021, Queen Elizabeth II awarded the George Cross to the UK National Health Services, recognising all NHS staff in all four nations. Northern Ireland was awarded its own George Cross. The George Cross is the highest possible honour a civilian or an organisation can achieve. To mark this outstanding achievement, the inaugural George Cross Lecture was given by Professor Sir Johnathan Van-Tam, one of the leading specialists in influenza and pandemic preparedness.

His lecture, 'Lessons from COVID and how we prepare for the next Pandemic', was pertinent for the audience of health professionals and academics.

Jonathan was also joined by Professor Sir. Michael McBride CMO, Mike Farrar Health Permanent Secretary, Jonathon Patton, Chair of NICON and Dame Fionnuala Mary Jay-O'Boyle DBE, DStJ.
