Dr. Kim Suhyun is a lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast with a multidisciplinary academic background spanning film studies and sociology. After working at several film festivals and the film industry in South Korea, Kim had worked as a lecturer at Kyoto University, Kansai University, and Ritsumeikan University since she completed her Ph.D. at Kyoto University in 2024.
Her Ph.D dissertation is Cultural Globalization and Filmmaking Sojourners: Transnational Film Co-production in East Asia. Her academic journey also includes an exchange program at the University of Texas at Austin (2019–2020), further enriching her global perspective. With a robust career in academia and the film industry as a researcher of the Korean Film Council (2011-2013), Kim also served in teaching Women in Documentary in East Asia and in working as a producer for documentary film projects in Japan. Dr. Kim Suhyun’s work bridges academia and the arts in the study of East Asian cinema, gender, film industry and cultural policy.
