This award recognises an individual who has delivered excellence by making a positive difference, going above and beyond what is expected.

This could be working to get things done in exceptional circumstances, or making a positive impact on the lives of colleagues or students through their work or the support they provide to others.

Prize

£1,000 will be awarded to the winning individual.

Entry Criteria

  • Award entries should relate to work undertaken in the period between 1 August 2023 and 31 July 2024.
  • This category is open to individual nominees only.

Nomination Advice

The Judging panel will be looking for details on how this individual has gone the extra mile and the impact they have made.

2023 -2024 Winner
Laura Farling, Faculty Office Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

Laura is an Educational Developer in the Faculty of AHSS and has played a key role in fostering student-staff partnerships. Laura led the development of the Student Digital Champions, guiding their transition into the Student Skills Assistants team this year. Through the Partnership Network, Laura has expanded collaboration opportunities and shown a strong commitment to innovative student support.

2022 -2023 Winner
Matthew Wilson, Research and Enterprise Directorate

Matthew is the Head of IP and Commercialisation in the Research and Enterprise Directorate, whose leadership and resilience has shone through as he has navigated team changes, staffing shortages, and above all, a debilitating stroke which he suffered in February 2023. Returning to work and having to adapt to a physical disability, Matthew maintained a positive and motivating atmosphere, fostering a sense of unity amongst his team and demonstrating great ambition in the face of adversity.  

2022 Winner
Helen Browne, Information Services

Helen is a Systems Analyst/Programmer with responsibility for a range of services including Authentication, Email and Office 365 provision. She won this award for consistently delivering excellence in this demanding role, going the extra mile to ensure an enriched IT experience for staff and students and making a positive difference to all at the University.

2021 Winner
Holly Pepper, School of Psychology

Holly is the Office Manager and Education Support Lead for the School of Psychology. She won this award as she was key to the School delivering its undergraduate and postgraduate education programmes following a considerable increase in the student intake in the year 2019-20. She also provided much needed additional support to Advisors of Studies during a challenging period.

2020 Winner
Dr Tim Fosker, School of Psychology

As a Lecturer and Disability Advisor within the School of Psychology, Tim had a significant impact on the wellbeing, retention and achievement of students with disabilities. As well as providing individual support, Tim was an outstanding advocate for students with disabilities.
