We hope that this will address any questions you, as the candidate, may have. Should you have any additional inquiries, please refer to the email address provided at the bottom of this page.
-
How many places are available for 2025 entry?
The number of places are allocated by the Department of Health N Ireland. For 2025 entry the number of places available are unchanged. There are 236 places for home fee applicants and 26 places for international applicants.
- I am a home fee candidate but do not want to travel to Belfast for an MMI interview?
For 2025 entry all home fee applicants will be interviewed in person in QUB, Belfast and are competing for the 236 home fees places. Only those applicants applying for the 26 international fee places will compete with an online interview.
- Are there any stations requiring data interpretation or Graphs?
There are no stations where you are required to interpret data of graphs.
- Are there any stations where I am required to write?
There is no station where you are asked to write anything down or make notes.
- Can I make notes during the interview?
We have explained in the pre-interview guidance that you have signed a confidentiality agreement that you will not discuss the questions outside of the interview. If you write personal notes you may find the interviewer thinks you are not being attentive to them as you wrote. Writing notes may also detract from your train of thought and from your answers.
The invigilators can ask you to show your desk at any time during the interview. Making notes will be considered a breach of the regulations in place for your interview.
-
Can I discuss my interview questions with others after the interview?
Your online interview will be subject to similar expectations regarding confidentiality as a face-to-face interview. You should not:
- discuss questions you were asked (or scenarios in your interview) with others, either online or in person, following your interview
- use any smartphone, electronic device or book during your interview
- record your interview in any way.
As you will have signed a confidentiality agreement, you must adhere to this.
- Will my interview be recorded?
We do not give permission for any part of your interview to be electronically recorded and undertake to make no such recording ourselves. We will hold no record of your interview performance other than assessors’ electronic score sheets.
- How long is there to read the candidate instructions before a station begins?
You are allowed one minute to read the candidate instructions. The candidate instructions are easily read in 20-30secs.
- How long does each station last?
Each station lasts 5 minutes. There is a warning when there is 1 minute left. The stations are tested to be easily completed in the timeframe allowed.
- How will I know the time for the station is coming to an end?
A warning is given to you when there is ‘one minute left’ in the station. This will appear in a blue box on your ZOOM screen and as a voice over. However, we find candidates are concentrating on what they are doing and may not notice these prompts. Hence, we also ask the interviewer to indicate there is one minute left by raising one finger so that you can see this on the screen. As this is silent it does not interrupt your conversation.
-
Can I ask the interviewer to repeat a question?
If you wish the interviewer to repeat a question, they will be very happy to do this for you. They will repeat the question exactly as it is. They cannot change the meaning of the question. This is so that each candidate is treated equally during the interview.
- What should I do if I finish the station before the 5 minutes are complete?
If you finish the station early remember the 5 minutes is all your time so if you think of something you would like to add to your answer please do this. The interviewer will not make conversation. Again, this ensures that each candidate has been treated equally during the interview. It is also so that you have the quiet time to review your answer.
- Do I move breakout rooms between stations?
Remember you do not move between stations or leave the breakout room assigned to you. Instead in the two minutes between stations we will move the interviewers. This means you have two minutes between stations to rest.
- Can I have someone in the interview room with me?
You must not have anyone else in the interview room with you. Please ensure you have:
- planned carefully that you have a stable internet connection which will support video streaming for up to two and a half hours – this may mean not using a WiFi link for example.
- a quiet room
- practised that your microphone and volume control ensures you can be clearly heard.
- The zoom link I have received opens earlier than the registration time I have been allocated.
Please note when you receive the zoom link for your interview - the link will be open in advance of the time for your actual registration slot. You only need to join the link at the time given for registration. Please be careful if you are converting GMT time to local time.
-
I have lost internet access during my interview? What do I do?
We have emphasised how important it is to ensure you have a stable connection prior to starting the interview. This may mean doing the interview in school or college where you are not dependent on a home/ domestic WiFi link.
Immediately restart your link and contact staff at the telephone number given in your interview letter. This phone is available on the day of the interviews specifically for this problem. The invigilators will manage each case on an individual basis.
