Examinations

Students must pass 120 CATS points of taught modules on the programme and complete a Dissertation (60 CATS points) to be eligible for the award of a Master of Science in Advanced Professional Practice.

The pass mark for all taught modules and the dissertation is 50%.

Students who fail one or more taught modules are permitted one further attempt to pass at the next available opportunity for a maximum mark of 50%.

Students must have accumulated 120 CATS prior to submission of their dissertation. The dissertation must be submitted within a period of no more than two years after completion of the taught modules.

There is normally no re-submission permitted for the individual dissertation.

The degree will be classified in accordance with the University General Regulations, Study Regulations, Mark Scales.

Candidates who pass all the taught modules but who fail to achieve a mark of at least 50% in the dissertation shall be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Practice.

Candidates who pass all the taught modules but who fail to submit a dissertation shall be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Practice.

For Master's Degrees, a pass with distinction will be awarded only when the following three conditions have been satisfied; an overall average of 70+ is achieved and a mark of 70+ is achieved in the dissertation module and an average of 65+ is achieved in the other modules.

Where students have completed a School of Nursing and Midwifery, QUB postgraduate programme that leads to a Professional Award (for example: Post Grad Diploma Specialist Practice, Post Grad Cert Nurse Prescribing) and have not accepted any academic accreditation, they may take the option of transferring to the MSc programme. Alternatively, a student may return their parchment and transfer to the MSc programme. This option is available within a limited period.

Notes

To qualify for the Master of Science in Advanced Professional Practice Cancer Care: Supportive and Palliative Care students must take and pass modules worth 120 CATS points and a dissertation worth 60 CATS points [180 CATS points total].

The MSc consists of two discrete Stages (1 & 2) that comprise taught modules of study and a dissertation. Students must successfully take and pass a total of six taught modules (120 CATS points - stage 1), including: one compulsory research module (NUR7010 OR NUR7002); two pathway specific modules (SPR7082, SPR7083 or SPR7084); and three optional modules that may be selected either from other specific pathways or the general pathways (see list of modules) and a dissertation (60 CATS points – stage 2).

Successful completion of all Stage 1 requirements [120 CATS] is essential before students can proceed to Stage 2: the Dissertation element of the MSc.

·NMP7002 Health Assessment has an OSCE is Pass/Fail and must be successfully completed.
·The MSc in Advanced Professional Practice is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Midwives, Allied Health Professionals, paramedics and other professions from a range of backgrounds.
·* Some modules may have restrictions and students must hold the relevant professional registration or be working in the practice area.
