Criteria for Admissions

A 2.1 Honours degree or above or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University in any subject discipline plus one year of experience in an ABA related context and access to an ABA related working environment. Applicants with a 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University may also be considered if they have at least two years of experience in an ABA related context and access to an ABA related working environment.
In line with University Regulations, there is a language requirement for applicants whose first language is not English (IELTS 6.5 or approved equivalent. For IELTs a minimum score of 5.5 is required in all four elements of the test.)

Programme Specific Regulations

The programme may either be completed over one academic year (full time) or students may build up the required number of modules over a period of two or three years from initial enrolment (part-time).
Students who wish to complete the programme in a two year period must adhere to the following schedule:
Year 1/Semester 1: 1 or 2 modules
Year 1/Semester 2: 3 modules
Year 2/Semester 1: 1 or 2 modules
Year 2/Semester 2: Dissertation completed (January-September)

Normally students should successfully complete all taught modules before progressing to dissertation.

Any deviation from this timeframe will result in students reverting to the three year timeframe.

Additional fee implications will apply to students who do not successfully complete or pass the dissertation in the shorter timeframe.

Students must pass 120-CATS points of taught modules on the programme and complete a dissertation (60 CATS points) to be eligible for the award of a Master’s degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis.

Students should normally have obtained 120-CATS points in the taught modules before undertaking an individual research project and submitting a dissertation.

Candidates who pass all the taught modules but who fail to achieve a mark of at least 50% in the dissertation shall be eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Behaviour Analysis. The School permits one attempt at dissertation resit for a maximum mark of 50% to be awarded the degree of MSc.

On successful completion of the MSc ABA, students will:

demonstrate knowledge and understanding of any educational research, policy, practice and theory covered in the programme;

analyse and apply critically examples of the research literature relating to the content of the programme;

demonstrate knowledge of a range of educational research methods;

choose fit-for-purpose methods for a research project within the context of their own professional role;

On the completion of this course successful students will be able to:

Students will develop practical and research skills in Behaviour Analysis. The course sequence (6 core modules) is approved by the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and meets the learning outcomes set out in the BACB Tasklist (4th Edition). In addition, the students will develop their skills in writing and Internet searching as part of the requirements of online learning.

Learning is independent and supervised by module tutors and has a practical as well as conceptual/theoretical orientation.

Assignments and dissertations are required, as far as this is practical, to be situated in the student’s working context.
