EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF PROGRAMME

The overall aims of the BSc (Hons) in Health and Clinical Studies programme are as follows:

Prepare healthcare professionals to meet the changes and challenges of health care delivery within the health service and independent sector.

Provide an academically challenging and practice orientated course of study that will prepare registered practitioners to contribute to the quality of professional evidence and informed practice.

Enhance the ability of practitioners to function as competent and confident graduates.

Notes

Full-time students must register for modules totalling 120 credit points over a 2 year period and additionally students must undertake a clinical practice module over a 2 year period (450 hours); this compulsory module* must be passed (HSN3147); it does not have any credits and will be undertaken and completed in the clinical setting. The BSc consists of two discrete Parts (1 & 2) that comprise taught modules of study and a clinical practicum. Students must successfully take and pass a total of 120 credit points, including one 20 credit point research module (part 1) and the clinical practice (part 2). With agreement of the Programme Co-ordinator three modules from designated areas of practice (eg Renal Nursing, Intensive Care Nursing) may be used and identified in the final academic award. Some modules may have restrictions and students must be working in the relevant area to access these.
