EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF PROGRAMME
The PGCE course provides an initiation into a professional learning framework which understands that teachers are pivotal to quality education and that learning to be an effective teacher is a career-long activity. The role of your initial teacher education is designed to provide you with a strong foundation of knowledge and structured experiences within which you can develop key competences that will enable you to sustain your professional development as a leader of learning into the future. The aims of the PGCE course are to:
• Inspire a passion for teaching and a belief that teachers matter and can effect change
• Enable all student-teachers to achieve high standards of professional learning through developing habits of critical reflection, inquiry and collaboration
• Equip student teachers with pedagogical expertise and the ability to know the impact of their teaching
• Cultivate core values and professional commitments to learners, colleagues, parents/carers and the profession and so foster dispositions towards all learners which respect their uniqueness, individuality and needs.
