Rachel Handley (TCD), 'Ideal Quasi-Realism: Eating The Cake, and Having It Too'

In this paper I argue that ideal quasi-realism can offer a solution to Sharon Street’s evolutionary debunking objection. I argue that Allan Gibbard and Simon Blackburn’s response to Street, rather than help their cause, merely generates more challenges for the quasi-realist. In this paper I’ll look at the objection, why the standard solution fails, and explain why the quasi-realist needs to give a fuller account of mind-independence to satisfy the problem. Lastly, I’ll explain some of the main features of ideal quasi-realist view of mind-independence and how this version of the theory can better solve Street’s challenge.
