“Navigating Gendered Spaces and Playing the Academic Game: the lived-realities of Women Professors

Nina Teasdale

Glasgow Caledonian University

Abstract:

In this seminar, Nina Teasdale will discuss the experiences of women who have reached senior occupational positions in Higher Education Institutions and how they have navigated their organisational and disciplinary settings. In so doing, she will draw on data from a qualitative funded study on women Professors working across science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) and non-STEMM disciplines in a large UK research-intensive university.

Short biographical sketch:

Nina Teasdale has been at the WISE Centre for Economic Justice since June 2019 and prior to that worked at the University of Manchester, alongside the Vice-Chancellor for Research, Professor Colette Fagan. Her research focus is on gender, work (including paid and unpaid work) and organisations and she has undertaken funded projects on women and leadership; women on corporate boards; and women’s under-representation at the upper echelons of Higher Education Institutions, as well as the gap between flexible working policy and practice and its unintended outcomes.
