Queen’s Graduate one of Lawyer Hot 100

Queen’s graduate Ciarán McGonagle has been recognised as one of the most influential lawyers in the UK, earning a coveted spot in The Lawyer magazine’s prestigious Hot 100 list for 2025.

Ciarán, who studied law at Queen’s, currently serves as the General Counsel and Head of Product at Tokenovate, a fast-growing fintech company at the forefront of digital assets and blockchain innovation.

He was selected for the Hot 100 list for his  work in translating legal theory into pioneering financial technology, building bridges between regulation and innovation in a fast-evolving sector.

Says Ciarán “My time at Queen’s instilled within me a respect for legal tradition and the enduring relevance of foundational doctrines in private law. I recall fondly Professor Dawson’s property law classes and my time tutoring for the department after graduation, grappling with 19th-century disputes over rights of way across muddy fields and the metaphysics of fixtures and chattels.”

“Today, the precedents we studied underpin the legal frameworks I am helping to develop; supporting the creation of transformational technologies such as AI, Blockchain and Digital Assets. It’s a powerful reminder that law isn’t an abstract or purely academic discipline - it’s intellectually rigorous, deeply practical, and central to how we structure, understand, and enforce rights in the modern world.”
