TEDx Talk Title - 'Ghosts in the Machine: The Archaeology of Hope'

Ghosts in the Machine: The Archaeology of Hope explores what it means to be human in an age that feels increasingly mechanical. We live inside systems—digital, cultural, historical—that often reduce us to patterns and functions. Yet within these machines, something lingers: the ghosts of memory, emotion, and imagination. These are not hauntings to escape but traces to follow, reminders that we are more than our algorithms or efficiencies.

This talk uncovers how hope survives in the most unlikely places—in forgotten histories, in the quiet between noise, in the ruins of what once was. By treating hope as an archaeology, we dig beneath the surface of modern life to uncover fragments of creativity, empathy, and meaning. Technology may record our data, but art, space, and story record our humanity.

Through the lens of design, culture, and lived experience—from Bangalore to Belfast—this talk invites us to see hope as a haunting force that refuses to disappear. It lives inside our machines, our memories, and our capacity to reimagine what remains.

About the Speaker

I’m Niveda, a curious soul who finds meaning in the spaces where art, design, and memory meet. I’ve always been drawn to how architecture and music hold stories—how they shape who we are and how we connect. Growing up in Bangalore and now living in Belfast, I’m learning to see the world through contrasts: familiarity and distance, tradition and change. I’m currently pursuing my master’s in Arts Management while working part-time with an arts organisation, where I get to bridge creativity and community. At heart, I’m just trying to understand how spaces—and people—carry hope through time.
