CLER was delighted to be one of this year’s recipients of Landmark Trust Futures scheme

The Centre for Language Education Research was delighted to be one of this year’s recipients of Landmark Trust Futures scheme. Selected as one of only 10 UK universities to be offered a free Landmark Trust study stay, researchers from the Centre for Language Education Research stayed at Auchinleck House in Ayrshire and undertook several writing projects, including the development of new research projects. Centre Director, Dr Aisling O’Boyle highlighted the importance and meaning of writing retreats for research groups, “Our three-night Landmark Trust stay gave us the time, space, and community to create synergistic plans of action for collaborative projects AND ‘quiet time’ for us to work uninterrupted on our individual goals too. Working in such a very different physical space actually really supported us to focus on our specific goals. Auchinleck House was perfect for us because it is the most accessible in the scheme for sustainable travel by ferry and car-share, and the link to a rather famous lexicographer who stayed there was a wonderful reminder of the endurance of language-focused academic work.” As part of their outcomes from the retreat the Centre produced a ‘guide to writing retreats’ .
