In November 2017 we had the fantastic opportunity to participate in the XV Congress of the Spanish Society of Oral Surgery which luckily took place in the city of our host institution - Valencia. SECIB (Sociedad Española de Cirugía Bucal) is a scientific community of great prestige in the national field with more than 1,800 partners all around the world that brings together specialists in Dentistry, Implantology, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In a series of sessions we were familiarized with different clinical cases of patients with premalignant oral disorders as well as oral neoplasia where they highlighted the latest trends in diagnostics, surgery and post-surgery interventions, and treatment strategies. Excited by the opportunity to present our posters, we showcased our MSCA research projects and aims. I focused on the molecular mechanisms necessary for the early diagnosis of OSCC (ESR1) and Sara focused on Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) patients’ response to therapy and treatment outcomes (ESR3). We had the chance to meet professionals within areas including Histopathology, Oral and Maxillofacial Reconstructive Surgery, and industrial representatives from the dental care sector. The event was closed by a traditional Spanish dinner where we got to meet and chat freely with PhD students, professors and clinicians within our field from university hospitals in Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Santiago de Compostela and Sevilla. We gained knowledge and advice from their personal experiences that will stand to us throughout our PhDs.Valentina and Sara 1
