Dr Joanna McHugh-Power BA PhD

Associate Professor in Psychology, Department of Psychology, Maynooth University

Joanna is a researcher in the domains of psychology and public health and is interested in the role of social factors in determining health in later life. Joanna has methodological expertise in the use of structural equation modelling, as well as extensive experience in qualitative and mixed methods research, all focusing on the roles of factors like social engagement and loneliness in later life. Joanna is a member of I-LINK (International Loneliness and Isolation Research Network), an international consortium of experts, the goal of which is to increase society’s ability through international collaboration to respond to loneliness throughout the life cycle. Joanna has conducted funded research for the Health Research Board, Irish Research Council, and the Centre of Ageing Research and Development in Ireland, and has over 50 publications in the domain of gerontology and social functioning.
