Students, who normally live in Northern Ireland, will be charged tuition fees of £4,275 per annum for full time undergraduate programmes.

Students who normally live in England, Scotland and Wales (GB Students), and who commence study from 2017/18 onwards, will be charged tuition fees of £9,250 per annum for full time undergraduate programmes. Returning students who admitted prior to 2017/18 will be charged £9,000 per annum for full time undergraduate programmes.

Students, who normally live in the Republic of Ireland or other non-UK EU countries, will be charged tuition fees of £4,275 per annum for full time undergraduate programmes.

Students, who normally live in the Islands, and who commence study from 2017/18 onwards, will be charged tuition fees of £9,250 per annum for full time undergraduate programmes. Returning students who admitted prior to 2017/18 will be charged £9,000 per annum for full time undergraduate programmes. For undergraduate programmes that contain Clinical elements a fee is still to be confirmed.

A fee of £825 will be charged for sandwich-year placements.

Students will be required to complete the University's enrolment and registration process at the start of the academic year. This process will be undertaken via the enrolment and registration wizard.

Students, whose personal contribution is £300 or less, will be required to pay in full at enrolment and registration.

The table below provides a summary of the payment options available to Undergraduate students, with the exception of International (non-EU) Undergraduate students.

The overarching principle, regarding the payment of tuition fees, and other associated charges, is that the student remains liable for the payment.  If the student loan or sponsorship arrangements do not subsequently provide funding, the student will be required to pay all fees and charges personally.

Please note the 25% of Tuition Fees are Non-Refundable.

Failure to pay tuition fees and/or related charges, or make appropriate arrangements to pay tuition fees, by the relevant deadline, will lead to a student being suspended.  Students under suspension will not be eligible to enrol or graduate.

Completing your student finance application

Before applying

Before you apply, you should check what types of student finance are available and if you qualify for student finance.

The two main types of student finance are:

• Student loans
• Maintenance grants

All full-time students who qualify for student finance are entitled to a basic amount of financial help. Anyone can get a loan to cover tuition fees. However, the total amount you can get through grants and the Student Loan for Maintenance will depend on your household income/ benefits (for example, your income, together with your parents' or partner's income).

How to apply for student finance

Register online

You need to register with Student Finance NI. You will need your National Insurance number for this.

You will be given a unique 11 digit Customer Reference Number better known as your ‘ART ID’. You will be asked to set your own password and choose a secret question and answer. Your password and secret answer will help identify you whenever you access information about your student finance account, either online or by phone.

Parents or partners can also register online separately by creating an online account. Once registered, you can click on a link to ‘support a student’s application’. You will need the student's ART ID to link to their account.

Paper applications

If you apply on paper, you register by sending your application form plus any suitable evidence to your Education Authority regional office(external link opens in a new window / tab). 

An online account will be set up on your behalf and you will be sent a password and secret answer. When you login to your online student finance account for the first time you will be prompted to change your password and secret answer to something more memorable.

Applying for student finance after your first year

For each year that you need student finance, you must send in an application form.

When you first apply for student finance, you will need to use the 'PN1 - Application for student finance form' (see above).

If you are re-applying, you need to use the 'PR1 - Continuing students' application form' on the Forms and Guides 2018-2019 page under 'continuing students'.  

Students who already receive student finance for the current academic year will be contacted automatically with details about how to apply for the coming year.

Students from Northern Ireland can apply online for a fee loan via the Student Finance Northern Ireland website or by calling Student Finance Northern Ireland on 0845 600 0662.

Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS)

Scottish students can apply for a loan to pay their fees if they are studying at a UK institution outside Scotland and meet SAAS residency eligibility conditions. The residency eligibility conditions are complicated and if a student is in any doubt about their residence status, they should contact SAAS for advice.

As confirmation of funding SAAS will send students a financial notification letter which they should give to the Student Finance Office during enrolment and registration to ensure their tuition fees are paid. SAAS will make tuition fee payments made directly to the University on the student’s behalf.

When an application has been made for a full-time undergraduate programme, prospective students should apply for a tuition fee loan and/or maintenance loan. Students do not need to wait until a firm offer of a place has have received.

European Union (EU) Students (Non-UK)

Non-United Kingdom EU students will pay the same tuition fees as Northern Ireland (NI) resident students. EU students can defer their tuition fees by applying for a tuition loan from the SLC. The date when a student withdraws will affect the level of tuition fees which may be refunded and it will also affect a student's maintenance and tuition loan.  Adjustments to tuition fees are calculated with reference to the date of a student's withdrawal from the University, not the last date of attendance.
