Access for Members of the University

Access Control

The McClay Library operates a controlled entry system. In the interests of security and efficiency, and to prevent delays at the entrance and exit gates, members are required to use their Smart Card to obtain admission

Members of the University

Queen’s staff and students, Health Service and AFBI staff and, Associate and SCONUL members will gain automatic access by scanning their Smart Card at the entrance gates. Alternative the Smart Card function on the Queen’s University App may be used.

SCONUL Access for Queen’s Staff and postgraduate research students

SCONUL Access is a reciprocal scheme that most universities in the UK and the Republic of Ireland support. It enables staff and students to use other libraries free of charge.

Queen’s supports Band A of the scheme  so academic staff and PhD students may apply for Membership on the SCONUL website.

ALCID Membership for Queen’s staff and postgraduate students

ALCID (Academic Libraries Co-operating in Ireland) is a cooperative access scheme between university libraries located in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

It facilitates reference access to participating libraries.

Membership is available to full-time academics, academic-related staff and, postgraduate (doctoral and masters) students.

To apply for an ALCID Card complete the Queen’s ALCID Access Application Form.
