Volunteering with Macmillan Cancer Support

People tell us they need practical and emotional support during their cancer journey and they want help locally. We are setting up new volunteer-led services of Macmillan Community Helpers which we’d love you to be a part of.

Volunteers can help to make life easier by visiting people affected by cancer regularly and doing housework, shopping or simply by having a chat and listening to how they are feeling.

The role involves listening and talking to people with/affected by cancer which may help to reduce their isolation and increase their confidence and self-esteem.  The role will also include providing practical support in the home, such as shopping, vacuuming, washing, ironing and cooking.  Activities will be agreed with the individual and the volunteer.  Volunteers will be provided with training and support to help them and information from Macmillan to assist them when working with someone affected by cancer.
