Near Peer Teaching (NPT) for Senior Undergraduate Medical Students

Activity Overview

Level of Study

Undergraduate

Award Type

Single Route

The Near Peer Teaching (NPT) programme is a voluntary initiative available to senior undergraduate medical students from year 3 onwards. It offers four key opportunities: (1) Basic Life Support (BLS) training for first-year medical students; (2) Participation in the Acute Critical Emergency (ACE) course for second-year medical students; (3) Year 5 students teaching years 3 and 4 in the PeerShare education programme; (4) Near-Peer Learning (NPL) course where year 5 students teach each other clinical skills.

From year 3, students can apply to participate in these opportunities. Senior students will undergo preparatory training to equip them with the necessary teaching skills. They will then deliver teaching sessions under the supervision of academic staff and receive feedback from both learners and facilitators. Participation in both BLS (a minimum of 4 hours) and ACE2 (a minimum of 10 hours) is mandatory for students committing to this programme.

These activities aim to develop teaching, leadership, and critical thinking skills in senior students while enhancing clinical knowledge across cohorts. Senior students will also submit a reflective log (written, audio, or video) detailing their teaching experience and skills gained. Faculty will confirm completion upon fulfilling all requirements, and a certificate of completion will be awarded upon graduation
