Interested in a Career in Law?
Comprising two-days of in-person workplace visits to local and global law firms based in Belfast, the programme is an opportunity to:
- Take part in case studies, workshops, panels and legal skills sessions
- Hear from barristers and solicitors from a variety of practice areas
- Get tips from recruiters on getting hired by a top law firm
- Gain practical career knowledge on internships, placements, vacation schemes and training contracts.
Applications for Spotlight on Law Tour 2026 will open in semester two
Open to degree-registered Queen’s University students from, 2nd and 3rd year and those carrying out postgraduate study to include Senior Status.
Out of 30 places, 25 will be allocated to Queen’s Law School. Five places will be allocated to students from other schools
Out of the 30 places, 10 will be allocated to students from a Widening Participation background. (Please check the application in MyFuture for full details). .
If the allocated Widening Participation Criteria is not met the places will automatically be re-allocated to other applicants.
Successful applicants will be advised by email to their Queen’s account in due course.
The top 30 applications will be offered a place on the Programme and a reserve list may be created.
There is no charge for this tour.
All sections of the application form on MyFuture must be fully complete, within the word count and have accurate spelling and grammar; otherwise, marks will be deducted accordingly.
This Careers programme is also Future-Ready Award accredited through the Combined Route for students who wish to apply to gain the award.

The Spotlight on Law Tour consists of structured visits and workplace insights over two days, to include work practices, people and environments.
This Belfast based program will provide students with an opportunity to connect with employers and explore career options related to solicitor, barrister and graduate legal roles e.g. legal professional.
The program will finish with a panel event and networking opportunity.
Everyone who applies by the deadline will be emailed to their Queen's email address in regard to their application a few weeks after the closing date.
Those who are successful in their applications will be provided with further information on the programme itinerary via email.
Through this programme you can expect to:
- Take part in case studies, workshops, panels, and legal skills sessions
- Hear from legal professionals from a variety of practice areas including human rights, commercial, family and defence litigation.
- Get insight into training pathways in Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and England &Wales
- Network with senior professionals within the profession
- Find out about summer internships, placements, vacation schemes and training contracts
- Get valuable tips from recruiters to help improve the quality of your applications to firms
- Join like-minded students in this unique insight into the work/life balance of lawyers and barristers
- Gain experience that will count towards Future-Ready award accreditation.
- Develop your employability skills through designing and delivering a post tour dissemination event to share your experience.
