AEL SWAN Summer Panel: Feminist Time, Feminist Histories

This panel will showcase emergent scholarship in gender and the arts in the School of Arts, English, and Languages, and is an opportunity to reflect on the ways in which we navigate history and think about time from a feminist perspective.

Date(s)
May 25, 2021
Location
Online via MS Teams
Time
17:00 - 18:00

Our speakers will reflect, respectively, on the histories of feminisms in Northern Ireland and the erasure of lesbian identity from history. Each will reflect, broadly, on how we might map and trace unwritten or marginalised histories and on the role that creativity, on the page and on the stage, might have in this process. By what means, in other words, do we find ourselves connected with – or disconnected from – our gendered pasts?

Dr Shonagh Hill, ‘Generational Feminisms in Contemporary Northern Irish Performance’

Hilary McCollum, ‘Past, Present, Imperfect: Writing the Suffragette Past’
