Over ten nights in 1999 Seamus Heaney read his translation of Beowulf on the iconic BBC Radio 4’s Book at Bedtime. Heaney first encountered Anglo Saxon literature when he studied Beowulf as a student at Queen’s University. That study made such an impression on him that he donated his draft manuscripts and archival material relating to the Beowulf translation, including the corresponding student notebooks, to Special Collections at Queen’s.
