INI Satellite Programme- Topological groupoids and their C*-algebras

The Mathematical Sciences Research Centre of the School of Mathematics and Physics at Queen's University Belfast will be hosting the INI satellite programme on 30 June- 25 July 2025.

Date(s)
June 30, 2025 - July 18, 2025
Location
TBC
Time
08:55 - 08:55

The last decade has seen spectacular developments in the classification programme of C*-algebras, and in the study of C*-algebras associated to dynamical constructions such as actions of groups on spaces and C*-algebras, topological groupoids, symbolic dynamics, and higher-rank objects. The aim of this 4-week satellite programme is to bring together researchers to tackle fundamental problems on the interface between these two areas.  With the right combinations of expertise and knowledge, classification results can be used to gain insight into natural families of C*-algebras coming from dynamical constructions to resolve long-standing questions in non-commutative dynamics. Rapidly evolving techniques for analysing C*-algebras associated to groupoids and recent new methods for recognising classifiable C*-algebras are expected to play significant roles.

The programme will be organised as follows:

30 June - 4 July 2025: Workshop: “Crossed products and groupoid C*-algebras, followed by the UK Operator Algebras conference”, including three mini-courses on “Groupoid, Cartan subalgebras and Kumjian-Renault theory” by Anna Duwenig (University of New South Wales), “Classifiability of crossed products” by Gabor Szabo (KU Leuven), and “Introduction to topological full groups” by Hiroki Matui (Chiba University).

7 - 11 and 21 - 25 July 2025: In-residence research programme

15 - 18 July 2025: Conference on “C*-algebras: classification and dynamical constructions”

Organisers:

Ying-Fen Lin (Queen’s University Belfast

Astrid an Huef (Victoria University of Wellington)

Nadia Larsen (University of Oslo), Xin Li (University of Glasgow

Stuart White (University of Oxford)
