“Writing for Publication in Top Journals”

Abstract

This 2.5-hour seminar is designed for PhD students and junior faculty who aspire to publish in leading academic journals. The session will provide practical guidance on how to craft clear and compelling manuscripts, how to position research in ways that highlight its theoretical contribution, and how to successfully navigate the revise-and-resubmit process. Drawing on insights from management and organization theory as well as the speaker’s experience as a former Associate Editor at the Academy of Management Review, the seminar offers both concrete advice and behind-the-scenes perspectives. Participants will come away with a clearer sense of what top journals look for, how to frame their research for scholarly impact, and how to approach the publication journey with confidence.

Short Bio

Patrick is Professor of Strategy and Responsible Management and Director of the Department of Strategy, Globalization and Society at HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne. He is also an International Research Fellow at the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation. In addition, he serves as the Director of the HEC Research Center for Grand Challenges, a faculty-wide focal point for research and teaching on Grand Challenges related to society and the economy. Patrick’s research interests focus on practice implementation, business transformation, and the application of experiments and formal models to the study of social and institutional change. A major focus of Patrick’s current research is the conceptual and empirical study of legitimacy, a crucial antecedent of social and institutional change. A former Associate Editor of the Academy of Management Review, Patrick currently serves on the Editorial Review Boards of the Academy of Management Review, the Journal of Management, the Journal of Management Studies, and Organization Studies. In January 2026, he will start a three-year term as Associate Editor at the Journal of Management Studies.
