What do you think are the benefits of a postgraduate degree?

The modules I studied led me to apply to Queen's Postgraduate programme. Earning a master's degree has given me an in-depth look at how the fields of law and technology are becoming more intertwined. Acquiring sophisticated information is just half the battle; the other half is developing your analytical skills, doing thorough research, and grasping the complexities of the law in a technology-driven society.

These abilities are essential in the modern digital era due to the ever-changing nature of the relationship between law and technology.

Why did you decide to pursue PG study?

My enthusiasm for specialising in the discipline and gaining a competitive advantage in the industry was a driving force behind my decision to seek postgraduate education. My interest was attracted from the very beginning, particularly regarding topics such as the regulation of innovation and the relationship between artificial intelligence and the law.

I wanted to be at the vanguard of this transformation, driving technological breakthroughs within the legal framework, and I knew that understanding the legal ramifications of technology is something that is quite important.

What made Queen’s stand out from other universities during your initial research?

Queen’s stood out for its exemplary reputation in Law and Technology and the subject modules it offered. The prompt response of the authority, the kindness of the people of Belfast have indirectly increased the reputation of Queen’s overall.

The curriculum's focus on current and future legal challenges in technology, taught by leading academics and industry professionals, who reciprocate positively, resonated with my academic and career goals. The university’s strong industry links and research opportunities also promised a practical learning experience.

As an example, the University's partnerships with local businesses have been an asset to students through initiatives like the Industry Led Mentoring Programme, which connects students with professionals in the field and allows those professionals to teach students the ropes.

Why did you ultimately decide to move to Belfast and study at Queen’s?

Relocating to Belfast was a smart move, particularly with regard to the relatively low cost of living and the ease of access. My studies were carried out in an atmosphere that was ideal for me because Queen's University, which is a member of the Russell Group of Universities, is home to cutting-edge facilities and a thriving student community.

In addition, the fact that Belfast is a rapidly expanding technology hub served as a real-world backdrop for my studies, allowing me to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical, real-world insights.

How has the Queen’s Graduate School supported your postgraduate journey?

From the beginning of my professional life, the Graduate School at Queen's has been an invaluable resource. To offer just a few examples, their individualised training on research methodology, their seminars in which industry experts visit and give insights on any legal difficulties, and the job fairs that are related to their sector all substantially exceeded my expectations.

The consistent support that they have provided, whether in the form of academic coaching or resources for mental health, has been really helpful in ensuring that my postgraduate experience is both balanced and productive.

How will your course at Queen’s help with your future career aspirations?

The foundation of my professional goals is the course that I am currently taking at Queen's. My goal is to become an expert in the field of new technologies, and this course is providing me with a deep grasp of the legal frameworks that surround these technologies. My capacity to critically evaluate and negotiate complicated legal landscapes in my future job is being shaped by the fact that I have been exposed to ongoing legal disputes surrounding technology during my college years.

What skills have you developed as a result of your course?

My hard skills as well as my soft abilities have been significantly improved as a result of taking this course. A thorough legal analysis, the ability to solve difficult problems, working together as a team, and legal research that is proficient in technology are just the beginning.

I have also developed my "soft skills," which include critical thinking, effective communication, and ethical judgement, all of which are essential in the field of law. I have refined these skills through participation in seminars.

Have you utilised any of the careers and employability services offered by Queen’s? If so, how have they helped to get you ‘future-ready’ following the completion of your degree?

I have been actively involved with Queen's careers and employability services, making use of platforms such as 'MyFuture' for the purpose of receiving career information and attending workshops centred on employability. For instance, universities have their very own unique curriculum vitae and cover letter templates. These templates demonstrate how a curriculum vitae and cover letter should be written for industries in the United Kingdom.

In addition to this, universities have partnered with VMock, which provides you with continuous feedback on how to improve your CV and suggestions for changes. Through their partnership with Student Circus, a third-party job portal, as well as the seminar that they provide, they provide students with the opportunity to investigate various employment prospects.

In order to have a better grasp of the legal employment market and to better prepare myself to be "future-ready," their individualised one-on-one career consultations, in which consultants provide continuous support to students, as well as their networking events, have been quite helpful. They have assisted me in bridging the gap between my academic accomplishments and my expectations for my professional career.
