This conference brought together a number of IPSA research committees in our host location, Sarajevo, a city with a long and rich history of cultural and religious diversity but still scarred by the legacy of ethnic conflict a quarter century ago, provided a unique location to explore the theme of the conference. The conference brought together researchers and practitioners to examine the challenges of building democratic state institutions, addressing legacies of the past, to discuss policies of diversity supporting and consolidating democratic governance in ethnically diverse settings. Overall, the conference discussed a range of diverse real word, policy and academic perspectives impacting on the future of democratic governance in ethnically divided societies. The keynote speaker at the event was Professor Kanchan Chandra from New York University. With over 230 participants from over 40 countries, Colloquium counted over 40 panels, 5 roundtables and 4 book panels making this one of the larger events organized by the RC14 over the past decades.
