At the Library, we aim to alleviate the challenges posed by the ongoing cost of living crisis to support our students and customers. We have several service initiatives aimed at easing the burden and enhancing the wellbeing of our customers.

  • We issue no fines on late returned books.
  • Students can borrow laptops for use within the Library.
  • We provide charging stations for devices.
  • Our Wellbeing Collection contains around 2500 print and 60 e-book titles covering a range of topics relating to health and wellbeing as well as a collection of popular fiction. We welcome suggestions for new titles.
  • We subscribe to PressReader, a resource that provides unlimited access to 7,000 digital newspapers and magazines from 120 countries in 60 languages.
  • We subscribe to video streaming services including Kanopy and Box of Broadcasts, enabling access to a vast array of movies, documentaries, foreign films, classic cinema and independent films.
  • We provide free period products, ensuring that essential items are accessible to everyone.
  • We offer 24-hour access to McClay Library throughout term-time, providing a safe and warm environment for students to study or relax.

Library Services is dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment. Through these initiatives, we aim to address challenges posed by the cost-of-living crisis and contribute to the overall wellbeing and success of our students and customers.

University Librarian and Assistant Director, Jane O’Neill says, “Library Services is at the heart of the University, and we are always looking for ways to enrich the student experience so we can meet the needs of all our Library customers.”
