Heaney’s writing has long influenced artists working in all disciplines. During lockdown, painter Colin Davidson sought solace in Heaney’s poetry, and returned to the sketches he had made towards his portrait of Heaney in 2013, now held in the Ulster Museum Art Collection. Davidson painted a copy of this portrait for his friends, and it has become a treasured item in their home. The owners of the portrait, together with Colin have generously loaned it to the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen’s for a limited period, where it will also be treasured as a symbol of friendship.
The permanent exhibition will also be open late to mark the occasion.
