    • International Currency Payments – Signing up to an International Currency Payment Plan allows you to continue making your instalment payments in your home currency, throughout your time at the university. Automatic reminder emails will be sent 10 and 5 days prior to the payment dates to allow you sufficient time to make your payment by your chosen method.
  • How do I sign up to a Payment Plan?

Following signing up to pay your tuition fees by a Payment Plan in the Enrolment and Registration Portal, you will be sent an email in mid October providing you with instructions on how to sign up to a Payment Plan through the Payment Plan provider Flywire.

Emails CANNOT be sent earlier than mid October so please keep an eye on your QUB email account for this email

I have SLC funding

  • Undergraduate loans

Please refer to the link below for further information

    Tuition fees | Study | Queen's University Belfast (qub.ac.uk)

Eligible NI, GB and ROI students will be able to borrow the full cost of tuition from the Government, in the form of a tuition fee loan. The tuition fee loan is not means-tested and is available to all eligible students. Students can apply online for a tuition fee loan, maintenance loan and grant using the following links:

    Student Finance NI

    Student Finance England

    Student Finance Wales

    Student Finance Scotland

If you are an undergraduate student from NI, England, Wales or the EU, with a confirmed tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company (SLC), which covers your full tuition fees, we will confirm this directly with the SLC.

Students from Scotland must submit their proof of tuition fee funding by email to studentfinance@qub.ac.uk

If you wish to be automatically assessed for the Queen’s Bursary please ensure that you agree to share your financial information from your student finance application with the University.

  • Postgraduate loans

Students normally resident in Northern Ireland can apply online for a tuition fee loan at Student Finance NI. Your tuition fee loan will be paid directly to the University on your behalf.

Students normally resident in Scotland can apply online for a tuition fee loan at Student Finance Scotland. Your tuition fee loan will be paid directly to the University on your behalf.

Students normally resident in England and Wales can apply online for a tuition fee loan at Student Finance England or Student Finance Wales. Your tuition fee loan is paid directly to you. Therefore, students funding their Masters with this loan, must pay a minimum 33% deposit payment at enrolment, followed by equal payments at the end of January and April. These dates are line with the loan instalment payment dates. To sign up to this arrangement students should contact directdebits@qub.ac.uk.

  • I haven't received my SLC maintenance loan

If you have applied for a maintenance loan and received confirmation of your funding, you should receive your maintenance loan into your bank account within 3-4 days of completing your registration with the university.

If you do not receive it, please contact your funding authority to see if there has been a delay. If they confirm that it has not been delayed, please email reghelp@qub.ac.uk and include your student support reference number and student number so that we can investigate this for you.

  • My SLC loan wont be approved before the start date of my course, is this a problem?

If your SLC loan has not been approved before you enrol, please still indicate when registering that you expect SLC to be funding your tuition fees.

If we do not receive your student loan payment by the end of Term 1 you must contact them to ask for an update and email this to us at slcquery@qub.ac.uk

The Student Loans Company will pay your tuition fee loan directly to the University. This means that your tuition fees will never directly be charged to you, or the loan paid into your bank account, however you still need to reapply for funding for every year of study.

  • My circumstances have changed since I applied for my student finance, what do I do?

If your annual household income has changed by more than 15% within the year, you can apply for a current year assessment by completing the form on the gov.uk website, as you may be entitled to extra funding.

I am externally sponsored

  • I have a third party sponsor

A sponsor letter will need to be provided at the beginning of each academic year, at enrolment and registration. Full details of what needs to be included in this letter are available in the External Sponsor section of this webpage https://www.qub.ac.uk/Study/Feesandfinance/pay-tuition-fees/externally-funded

The sponsor letter should be uploaded in the E&R Portal during registration. Sponsor letters not uploaded in the E&R Portal can be emailed to sponsors@qub.ac.uk

An invoice will normally be issued to sponsors in early November of each year. Payment is due 30 days from the date of invoice. The tuition fee liability will revert to the student if fees remain outstanding after this due date.

  • I disagree with my fee status

    Fee status | Study | Queen's University Belfast (qub.ac.uk)

In most cases fee status cannot be changed after you have registered at the University, however it may be possible in very limited circumstances.  Please note that if you are classified as International for fee purposes, and you obtain 'Indefinite Leave to Remain' after the first day of the first academic year of your programme (1 September in the year that your programme started), or if you subsequently acquire three years’ residence in the UK, your fee status will not change.

Further details of the exceptional circumstances under which fee status may change are listed on the UKCISA website.

However, if you think the University has incorrectly applied the regulations in assessing your status for tuition fee purposes, it is possible to appeal this decision.

The Student Finance Framework has been developed by the University to provide a consolidated guide on all matters which have an impact on tuition fees and associated charges. The Framework also includes a Fee Appeals Process.  The Student Finance Framework and full details of the Fee Appeals Process (contained within Section 9 of the Framework document) including information on the Grounds for an Appeal are available here.

Appeals should be submitted to the office of the Director of Finance in the first instance (finance.dept@qub.ac.uk)
