SIV Success at the NICRF
This week four site initiation meetings took place in the NICRF reflecting a diverse portfolio of clinical studies. This is a significant milestone for the staff involved in setting up these studies. It also signals the start of activity for several important research programmes and reflects the continued growth of clinical research delivery at the NICRF.
The week has been characterised by high level activity, multidisciplinary collaboration and extensive staff training to ensure studies are launched upholding the highest standards of safety governance and quality.
Advancing Respiratory Research
Two of this week’s SIVs focused on non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis, a chronic lung condition requiring improved treatment options and patient support. The CLEAR Study led by Professor Damian Downey and Home Brac – lead by Dr Dermot Linden.
Expanding Ophthalmology Research
In ophthalmology the i-SIGHT2 study lead by Professor Tunde Peto. This study focuses on age related macular degeneration, a leading cause of vision loss.
Supportive Recovery After Intensive Care
The Harmonise Study Led by Professor Danny McAuley and Dr Jonathan Stewart aims to support people with medical and social problems post intensive care discharge.
