Queen’s University Belfast is pleased to welcome visiting students from Northeastern University through the prestigious N.U.in Northern Ireland programme.

Accommodation

As a Northeastern University student at Queen's University Belfast, you will be staying in Elms BT9 (Rowan).

Once you have registered for Queen’s, you will automatically be assigned a room in Rowan (you do not need to do anything!), and you will receive information on which flat and room you have been assigned to, in August.

Before travelling to the UK, it is important that you check you have the correct immigration permission.  The type of permission you will need will depend if you are a non-visa national or a visa national. 

You can check if you need to apply for a visa in advance of travelling to the UK on the UK government website.

Healthcare and Insurance
All Northeastern University students are required to have International Health Insurance when studying abroad.

Private Healthcare Providers and Emergency Contacts

For any other health & wellbeing-related issues, you can book an appointment with a General Practitioner (GP) or other medical specialist in a private practice. Please note that most GP doctors in the UK are part of the National Health Service. 

You will need to pay the provider directly, however, your insurance provider will reimburse all eligible medical expenses. Please read your insurance documentation carefully.

It is important you arrive financially prepared for the first few weeks
As you will be staying in the UK for less than six months, you may find it difficult to open a UK bank account, therefore you may wish to look into other banking options like the below. Most retail outlets in the UK and Ireland may not accept Discover or American Express, please bring a Visa or MasterCard instead. Please note the University is not officially recommending use of these services but options to be considered include:

In the event of an emergency, please ring the Emergency Services on 999. You will have to state which service(s) you require, such as police, ambulance, fire and rescue services.

24/7 Safety and Security at Queen's

The team monitors the CCTV, intruder alarm, and fire alarm systems, as well as managing the access control system and enforcing the car parking regulations. The Security Service is committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all persons working, studying, and visiting the University campus.
