Nursing - Republic of Ireland

The Irish Government has agreed with the Department of Health, Northern Ireland to fund a number of Nursing training places at Queen’s.  Places are available for Republic of Ireland students in Adult Nursing and Children and Young People’s Nursing, commencing in February 2024. 

Eligibility: To be eligible to apply, applicants must be living in the Republic of Ireland and be assessed by Queen’s as a Republic of Ireland student for fees purposes. Guidance on the regulations to determine tuition fees status in Northern Ireland can be found on the UKCISA website (UK Council for International Student Affairs).  Please also check that you meet the entry requirements and then complete a Clearing Enquiry form.  You will be able to upload your qualifications to the enquiry portal.  If  you meet the entry requirements, the School of Nursing and Midwifery will be in touch about the selection interview process and next steps.

Steps for Applying:

Step 1: Irish Leaving Certificate minimum grades required

Applicants should ensure that they meet the following minimum entry requirements

 Irish Leaving Certificate (ILC)

H3 H3 H4 H4 H4 at Higher Level where a relevant Science subject is offered (Biology, Chemistry or Physics)

OR

H3 H3 H3 H4 H4 at Higher Level where a relevant Science subject (as above) is not offered.

All applicants – if English, Mathematics and a relevant Science subject (as above) are not offered at Higher Level then Ordinary Level grade O4 is required in each subject.

Step 2: Submit a Clearing Enquiry

Those who satisfy the above entry requirements should submit a Clearing Enquiry at QUB Clearing Enquiries Portal and upload a copy of their official ILC results including all Ordinary and Higher Level subjects and grades.

Step 3: Academic Assessment

The Admissions and Access Service will complete an assessment of the qualifications provided.

Step 4: Interview Stage

Applicants who meet the entry requirements will be progressed to interview. Colleagues in the School of Nursing and Midwifery will contact eligible applicants with further details of the interview process.

Step 5: Completion of the interview process

On conclusion of the interview process the Admissions and Access Service will notify applicants of the outcome.

It is anticipated that the process will be complete by early October but no later than Thursday 12 October 2023.
