EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF PROGRAMME
General Aims
To provide graduate students with an opportunity for advanced study in political psychology
To prepare graduate students for more advanced research in political psychology, and/or for employment in political organisations
Specific Aims
To provide students with a critical understanding of the historical development of political psychology from different epistemological, ideological and disciplinary perspectives
To provide students with an advanced understanding of current theoretical debates within political psychology
To enable students to link theoretical and empirical questions to socio-political issues and to provide them with an in-depth understanding of the practical applications and action implications of social and political psychological theories and empirical findings
To raise students’ awareness of relevant literature in other cognate disciplines
To train students to use political psychological theories to formulate research questions relevant to current political phenomena
To provide students with the skills to use appropriate quantitative and qualitative methods to address theoretical and applied research questions as well as with the skills to interpret quantitative and qualitative data
To train students to conduct research ethically and maintain appropriate standards of conduct
To enable students to conduct an independent research study demonstrating self-direction and the capacity to deal with complexity and uncertainty
To facilitate self-reflection in support of personal and professional development
