EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF PROGRAMME
The purpose of the Master in Higher Education is to facilitate participants’ mastery of complex and specialised areas of knowledge and skills in Higher Education (HE), through their employment of advanced skills and informed judgment to conduct research/ advanced professional activity, while accepting accountability for their role in determining and achieving individual and/or collective outcomes. The general aims of the programme are:
• To develop informed higher education practitioners and/or researchers who demonstrate critically reflexive and evidence-based approaches to their practice;
• To create a learning environment that contributes to participants’ professional development and advancement by supporting the enhancement of professional and research practice in higher education for those working within adult learning conditions;
• To provide opportunities for dialogue within and between disciplinary/ professional silos across the university sector about best practices to support, research and enhance learning environments;
• To promote core professional values related to evidence-based scholarship and practice, respect for diversity and equal opportunity, and commitment to continuous professional development;
• To provide the opportunity to select from and apply a range of techniques and information sources, to develop critical and creative operational skills for a complex, unpredictable sector.
• To provide support and opportunity for higher education practitioners to display their mastery of a complex and specialised area of knowledge and skills in analogue and digital ways, to employ advanced skills to conduct research/ advanced professional activity, and to accept accountability for related decision-making, with supervision.
