EDUCATIONAL AIMS OF PROGRAMME
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principal concepts and debates in the historiography of local history and their applicability to research in Irish local history.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the methodical approaches required to locate, critically evaluate and utilise a range of primary source materials relevant to Irish local history.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of major themes in the literature on Irish local history, including the history of landed estates, poverty and welfare, education, religion, urbanisation and crime.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how Irish local history is connected to global and transnational history through the phenomenon of migration.
Demonstrate an ability to use effectively relevant archives, finding aids and online resources in completing a major personal research project.
Demonstrate competency in subject specific and key skills, and a professional approach to undertaking research and the presentation of project work.
Demonstrate an ability to conceptualise, plan and see through to completion a major personal research project to a high standard of historical professionalism.
