Background

Liza began her career in 1999 as a Software Developer before transitioning into User Interface Design. She previously held the post of Usability & Accessibility Consultant with the Scottish Government for a number of years before moving into the Higher Education sector 13 years ago. During her 6 years working with the University of Edinburgh, Liza provided operational, planning and strategic service management for key central services such as the University Portal, Wiki Service, Discussion Forum and Usability Service, among others. She designed, delivered and trained others in the delivery of various training programmes, whilst ensuring best practice and efficient use of resources, using various innovative learning approaches and methods.

During her time with JISC, Liza designed, implemented and piloted a Blended Learning Toolkit, a Department of Employment and Learning (DEL) initiative, which resulted in the successful delivery of an online open resource for academic staff throughout the six Further Education (FE) Colleges in Northern Ireland.  Liza worked in partnership with a wide range of education providers to engage and motivate academic staff to explore smarter ways of working through the use of technology. Creatively seeking effective solutions to support them in transforming their tradition teaching methods.

Responsibilities within the University

In Liza’s current post as a Senior Educational Developer at Queen’s University Belfast, she is the Team Lead for VLE Pedagogical Support, empowering staff to capitalise on an enhanced digital learning environment through the adoption and use of Canvas, the University’s new Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).  She also oversees a programme of continuing professional development and wider support with a particular focus on improving digital capacities of students and staff.
