Schedule 5 Pathogens and Toxins (Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act)

A range of pathogens and toxins are subject to additional controls under the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001. These are known as Schedule 5 Pathogens and Toxins as they are listed in Schedule 5 to the Act. Schedule 5 places an obligation on any premises holding stocks of specified disease causing micro-organisms and toxins, to notify their holdings and to comply with any reasonable security requirements with the local Counter Terrorism Security Adviser (PSNI).

FURTHER GUIDANCE AND INFORMATION:

Principal Investigators who wish to acquire, possess or use any Schedule 5 pathogens or toxins must obtain prior permission from their Head of School and ensure that they have consulted the University Biological Safety Officer for further advice prior to commencing work.
