Washington Ireland Program

The Washington Ireland Program (WIP) inspires and develops promising leaders through a program of personal development, policy debate and community service. 

The opportunity provides students with the chance to access 8 weeks of living in Washington D.C., staying with one of our welcoming host families, exclusive work placements, inspiring charity and community project service visits and an educational trip to New York City to conclude the program.

Below are the tentative dates for the WIP Class of 2026:

Application Opening: 9th October 2025
Application early bird deadline: 1st November 2025
Application regular deadline: 23rd November 2025 at 11:59 pm GMT
Interview notifications and interviews in Dublin and Belfast: January 2026
Orientation: April 2026
Pre-departure training: May 2026
Depart for US: June 2026
Return from US: July 2026. Programme debrief activities and Graduation: August/September 2026

WIP is looking for future leaders from any year of study. People with passion, new ideas and approaches who want to write a better future for Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Cost Details

WIP invests $14,000 in the development of each student it selects.  While the Program is heavily subsidized by our generous supporters, WIP asks that our students make a £1,250/€1,400/$1,550 contribution towards their costs.
