About the Performance

This piece of music is from “WHAT THEY MIGHT BE”, a collection of original songs exploring the science of human connection and its impacts on wider society, and inviting the audience to step out of their comfort zone to reflect on their own interactions with young people. All of the lyrics in the songs come from a series of conversations and songwriting sessions with young people who have been removed from mainstream education. Their words, opinions and ideas have been intertwined with developmental neuroscience, social science research, and experiences from educators, confronting us with uncomfortable truths and challenging us to make changes.

‘You Destroyed My Idea’ was inspired by a real conversation between a young person and their teacher and is performed almost entirely as it happened in real life.
