Support for Postgraduates at Queen’s: Community, Skills and Careers
If you’re a postgraduate looking for community, wellbeing, and career support, here’s how the Graduate School can support you during Semester 2 and beyond.
The Thomas J Moran Graduate School is your central space for the postgraduate community, academic support, and career development beyond your academic school.
What support is available?
We offer a range of support to all postgraduate students. All of our workshops and events can be seen on MyFuture four weeks in advance of when they occur.
Training and Development
Semester 2 is a good time to refocus on skills, wellbeing and future planning - especially if last term felt busy or isolating.
The Graduate School offers a wide range of free academic workshops, covering everything from postgraduate productivity and academic writing to creative approaches to communicating your research. These sessions are designed to support your academic development and help you get the most out of your studies.
Alongside this, there are also leadership and resilience-focused extra-curricular programmes, including Chartered Management Institute courses, leadership development opportunities and researcher resilience support.
Wellbeing and Community
At the Graduate School we are passionate about making you feel like you are part of something bigger than your classroom or research. We host a number of cultural and community events throughout the year so you can connect with your fellow students and promote your wellbeing while you study. These include quizzes, crafting afternoons, bi-monthly yoga classes, and simply the Graduate School Social Space where you can relax and wind down.
Every Wednesday Student Wellbeing join us in the social space from 10am – 12pm for 'Wellbeing Wednesday'. Come along to the drop in session, grab a tea and enjoy the time to chat with your peers from across the university.
Careers
We offer a range of employability programmes and workshops to help you manage your own career and become future ready (and maybe even get your Future-Ready award!).
Our careers consultants specialise in supporting PGR and PGT students, with workshops covering everything from job searching and CVs to LinkedIn, all tailored to postgraduates.
Enterprise and Innovation
The Thomas J. Moran Graduate School offers a range of innovative programmes, workshops and conversations to help you develop and harness your creative problem-solving skills, as well as taking ideas from concept to the next stage.
These events are hosted by a blend of Graduate School staff and special guests - each with the knowledge and experience necessary to utilise creative thinking to bring your career to the next level, in academia and beyond.
We would love to have you at the Graduate School, so please pop over for a visit! Feel free to come to the reception desk and ask for someone to show you around.
